PacketWarden watches the network traffic leaving your Mac, which makes privacy the whole point rather than an afterthought. We do not collect or store any personal information, and the app is built to run entirely on your machine.
This Privacy Policy describes what we don't collect, how your network data stays on your device, and what very limited data is handled by Apple during purchases.
1. We Do Not Identify You
PacketWarden does not collect your name, email address, IP address, or any identifiers. There is no account and no sign in, and you can use the app completely anonymously.
2. Your Network Data Stays On Your Device
The connections PacketWarden observes - the apps involved, destination hosts, IP addresses, ports, protocols and byte counts - are recorded in a local database on your Mac. Nothing about your traffic is uploaded, transmitted or synced to us or to anyone else.
3. Filtering Happens Locally
PacketWarden is built on Apple's Network Extension framework and filters at the socket level on your Mac. There is no kernel extension, no third party tunnel and no traffic routed through a remote server of ours. We never see the contents of your connections, and neither does the app - it works with connection metadata, not with what you send.
4. System Permission
PacketWarden asks macOS for permission to install its network filter so it can observe and block connections. macOS shows this request the first time you enable the guard, and you can remove the filter in System Settings > Network at any time, which stops PacketWarden from seeing or blocking anything.
5. GeoIP Lookup Is Offline
The connection map resolves destinations to countries using a GeoIP database stored on your Mac. No address, host or connection of yours is sent to a lookup service to draw the map.
6. Block Lists
Curated ad, tracker and telemetry lists are bundled with the app and applied locally. Turning a list on does not report anything about you, your apps or your traffic.
7. Your Data Is Yours To Remove
Connection history is limited to a rolling window and can be cleared from within the app. You can export the log to CSV, and export or import your rules, entirely on your own machine. Deleting PacketWarden removes its local database with it.
8. No Internet Required
PacketWarden works fully offline. The app does not need an internet connection of its own to run, and it does not transmit your activity anywhere.
9. Purchases
If you choose to unlock PacketWarden Pro, the transaction is securely handled by Apple via their in-app purchase and subscription system. We do not see or store any of your billing data.
10. No Tracking
We do not use third-party analytics, advertising frameworks, or cookies. We do not track your usage behavior, nor do we collect metrics on how you use PacketWarden.
11. Security
Because your connection history and rules stay on your device, there is minimal risk of breaches or leaks. We rely on Apple's secure APIs and infrastructure.
